Having fun at our Summer Club Activity
Our activity club is now on a summer retreat in Nagano.
We are staying at a lodge near Nojiji-ko,a big lake hwere
we swim, play tennis and cook our own meals. At night, we
gather together to talk, have a meeting, play games and
sing. Here is my friend Kenji playing the guitar. Our stay
here is really nice and I'm enjoying getting to know my
club members.

Working as an Community Health Volunteer
Several years ago, I went to the small village Djohong in western Cameroon (Africa) to help with a community health project. The person in charge of the project was Phyllis Jensyn, who was a retired American nurse who had come to Cameroon first as a Peace Corps worker and then decided to stay and live in this village. Our role was in giving medical check-ups to people in the village around Djohong, to test for intestinal parasites and to give the people information about preventing diseases caused by the various parasites and to give medicine to those who had a parasite. It was a short trip but it had a big effect on my sense of commitment to global issues because it meant tackling world problems on the local level.
